Heritage Place Closes September Yearling Sale With Significant Gains in Average and Median

The Heritage Place September yearling sale crossed the finish line Saturday (Sept. 22) in Oklahoma City with average and median priced increasing for the third year in a row. The average rose 4.8% from 2011 while the median grew an impressive 11%.
“We had a great crowd on hand for the sale and we are looking forward to an exciting Fall Mixed Sale in November”, Spence Kidney, Heritage Place Director of Operations said Saturday evening.
The final results included a gross of $8,282,500 for the 627 yearlings that were sold. The average price was $13,210 and the median price was $7,500. Results showed that over 85% of the horses were sold indicating a decrease in repurchases over 2011. However, the gross declined from $9,363,550 in 2011 due to fact that the 2012 sale cataloged 177 less head than last year.
A $185,000 Corona Cartel colt purchased by Jesus Alfredo Soto topped the sale during the opening session on Thursday. Consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Mackie Racing, Surging Market was bred in Oklahoma and produced from the two-time AQHA Racing Champion mare Mongoose Jet Eye ($447,550), by Mr Eye Opener. Mongoose Jet Eye has produced 6 ROM including three stakes horses. The second dam is the stakes winner and G1 placed First Down Dash mare Moongose Effort ($94,878). The family also includes stakes winner Special Mongoose ($205,096).
The sale’s second-highest price of $170,000 also came in the first session. Burnett Ranches LLC and Johnny Trotter purchased a daughter of Corona Cartel produced from the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner First Carolina ($415,047). She is a full sister to Rainbow Juvenile winner Denver Pass and recent Ruidoso Select Sale high-seller Carol On My Mind, who brought a final bid of $520,000. James Ranch, Agent consigned Ms First Prize Rose, whose second dam is former Broodmare of the Year Fast Prize Dash, a full sister to all-time leading sire First Down Dash.
Jesus Alfredo Soto Jr. was the sale’s leading buyer with two yearlings for $225,000. Joe M. Flores purchased seven head for $222,500 and LMR Mgt. bought five yearlings totaling $209,000. James Ranch, Agent was the sale’s leading consignor with 13 yearlings totaling $465,500. 6666 Ranch, Agent had 32 head bring $356,900 and Bobby D. Cox sold 20 yearlings for $346,300.
First Down Dash was the leading sale sire, with stallions selling two or more yearlings, with three averaging $63,833. Corona Cartel had 13 for $63,769 and Mr Jess Perry sold 13 head for a $44,615 average. Champion
Foose was the leading first sale crop sire with seven head averaging $13,814 followed Coronas Fast Dash who had two head average $13,350.
The November Fall Mixed Sale is shaping up to be a highlight event with approximately 900 horses entered” Kidney added. “Our pre-sale party and ‘A Night With Legends’, featuring some of the greatest American Quarter Horse Jockeys, will be held October 31. The three-day sale is schedule for November 1-3”.
