OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–SEPTEMBER 20, 2024– Durango MC, a brother to stakes winner and Grade 1 finalist Political Royalty, topped the second day of the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, bringing a bid of $475,000.
“The 2024 Quarter Horse Yearling Sale started off strong this morning and remained that way for the entire session,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said Saturday evening. “Today, 20 head brought $100,000 or more, and 5 were over $200,000.
Heritage Place Sale Company reports $15,891,200 from 432 horses sold of the 498 offered. The two-day average was $36,785, with the median at $22,000.
“Heritage Place appreciates the consignors and buyers staying with us, and we look forward to a great closing session tomorrow,” Kidney added.
Valeriano Racing Stables signed the $475,000 ticket for Friday’s sale topper Hip 505 Durango MC. Red River Equine, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC, consigned the colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Trendi, a Stoli sister to world champion and former leading money earner Stolis Winner.
Edwards Equine / Eric Edwards paid $350,000 for Friday’s second high-seller, Hip 318 Midnight Cowboy 123, a colt by leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 from the Grade 3 winning and Grade 1 producing Corona Cartel mare Midnight Cartel. Marty Powers, Agent for Flag Ranch LLC, consigned the half-brother to Los Alamitos Oaks(G1) winner Cartel Kisses.
Two horses tied for Friday’s third high-seller at $250,000.
Angel Ventura purchased Hip 375 Relentless Wine from Marty Powers, Agent for Flag Ranch LLC consignment. The colt by champion sire Hes Relentless is out of the Grade 3 winning Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Painted Wine Wagon. This is the family of Grade 1 winner Jess Good Wine.
Oziel Cantu Gallegos purchased Hip 481Anythang Goes, a Favorite Cartel colt out of the champion filly Pj Chick In Black by Desirio. South Fork Equine LLC, Agent for South Fork Equine/LS Racing Inc., consigned the half-brother to four black types, including Grade 1 Sooner State Stakes winner Hes Limitless and Grade 2 winner LS Jacks Back.
Over the two days, Valeriano Racing Stables LLC is the leading buyer, with one purchase for $475,000, Edwards Equine / Eric Edwards had the one for $350,000, and Ranch El 48 LLC paid $346,000 for three yearlings.
Marty Powers, Agent for Flag Ranch LLC, was the leading consignor and/or agent for two days, with 12 yearlings bringing gross receipts of $1,463,000. Red River Equine, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC, has sold 12 head for $1,189,000, and Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent, has 30 yearlings for $1,049,500.
Through two sessions, Apollitical Jess is the leading sale sire (by average, two or more sold) with 21 yearlings averaging $114,952. Favorite Cartel has sold 19 for a $76,842 average, and Flying Cowboy 123 had 21 yearlings averaging $73,976.
Love The Way You Fly is the leading first sale-crop sire, with two yearlings averaging $37,000.

Session 3 on Saturday (Sept 21) will begin promptly at 10 a.m. (CDT) with one breeding each to champions Uncle D and Dulce Sin Tacha, selling to benefit the Ruidoso Racing Foundation. The yearling sale begins immediately following those two lots with Hip 609 and continues through Hip 911.
