Oklahoma City, May 14, 2016 — They ran a dozen trials for the $1,083,420 Heritage Place Futurity G1 Friday night at Remington Park . . . and all the action really occurred in a very short period of time.
A brief storm occurred late in the evening. All five of the qualifiers came from races 8, 9 and 11 . . . with three coming from the ninth race.
Riding a 20 mph tailwind, the Carters Cartel gelding Kiss My Heineken (2015 Heritage Place Yearling Sale Graduate) set the fastest qualifying time of :17.322 in winning the 9th race by a nose over the American Runaway colt Accountably (2015 Heritage Place Winter Sale Graduate).
First Rate Return (2015 Heritage Place Yearling Sale Graduate), a gelding from the first crop of 2011 Heritage Place Futurity winner High Rate Of Return, ran third and finished the evening with the fourth fastest qualifying time.
Of that trio of qualifiers, only First Rate Of Return had a win on his record coming into the trials. The gross earnings for the three prior to Friday evening was $13,318.
Coronas First Diva, a Corona Cartel filly who had won the Oklahoma Futurity G3 back on March 29, did not need much help from the weather as she posted the evening’s fourth fastest qualifying time when she won the 11th trial in :17.447.
Sweet Annie GL, who had finished second by one-half length to Coronas First Diva in the Oklahoma Futurity, won the eighth race and sneaked in with the fifth qualifying time. She now has one win and two seconds in three outs.
The press-box report from Remington said, “The shifting Oklahoma weather played a part in the process Friday as the first eight trials were conducted into a headwind of 8-15 mph. Immediately after the eighth trial, a storm front rolled over Remington Park from the north, shifting the wind to a tailwind with gale-force strength at 35 mph. Kiss My Heineken won the ninth trial by a nose over Accountably, crossing the finish in :17.322 seconds over a fast track.”
Five more runners will come from the 12 trials that begin tonight at 6 p.m. CDT. Among the hopefuls are Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity G3 winner Duponte $121,000 in the first, Sam Houston Futurity G2 placed El Carretonero G $88,000 in the fifth and Remington Park Futurity RG2 placed V Power $171,000 in the sixth.
