POCATELLO, ID—MAY 23, 2016 — Long Lost Buddy (2015 Quarter Horse Yearling Sale), under jockey Uriel Dominguez, broke his maiden in a big way Sunday when he defeated stablemate A Cartel Hustle by 1¼ lengths in the $23,100 Rocky Mountain Spring QH Classic Futurity at Pocatello Downs. Pretty Pretty Pleez finished one-length back in the show position.
Racing for RTM Stables LLC, Ben McKinney and Richard Gardner, Long Lost Buddy went wire-to-wire while completing the 330 yards in a quick:16.982 seconds, a 99 speed index into a 10 mph headwind. The victory was worth $9,240.
Mark Hanson conditions the California-bred son of leading second crop sire Favorite Cartel from the Corona Cartel mare Remember The Cartel. Steve Burns, DVM is the breeder. RTM Stables purchased the half-brother to G2-placed Separate Cartel for $28,000 at Heritage Place September Yearling Sale. This is the family of three-time champion Kool Kue Baby.
Hanson saddled runner-up A Cartel Hustle for owner/breeders RTM Stables, LLC, Larry Chapple and Dick Wasia. Also a son Favorite Cartel, A Cartel Hustle is from the Feature Mr Jess mare Mothers Gift. Nakia Ramirez had the riding assignment to pickup $4,389 for the effort.
Pretty Pretty Pleez (2015 Quarter Horse Yearling Sale), a Texas-bred daughter of Hez Fast As Cash, races for owner CMH Welding, LLC. Ferrall Cunningham saddled the brown filly with Never Marin getting the riding call. Noe and Starla Martinez bred Pretty Pretty Pleez from the Strawfly Special mare Miss Flyin Feature. She earned $2,772.
Bc Moon Flight, Queen Of The Kartel, This Starts The One, Cartels Jubalee, Crown Ponte and Echo Creek Canyon completed the field.
