RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 12, 2016—Coming off a win in the $1.06 million Ruidoso Derby(G1) on Saturday, trainer Clinton Crawford and jockey Ivan Carnero teamed again to win the $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.
Apollitical Scout (Heritage Place Sale Graduate), a daughter of leading third crop sire Apollitical Jess, rolled a dominating 1 ¼ length win over Princess Of Torts while completing the 350 yards in :17.751 seconds into a 15 mph headwind. Magical Jess finished three-quarters back in the show position.
It was the first win in three starts for the Preston and Karen Cloud owned 2-year-old who entered the race off a second place effort to Ruidoso Futurity(G1) runner-up A Revenant in the trials May 27th. The sorrel miss has now compiled a (3) 1-2-0 record and used the $42,000 Ruidoso Juvenile winner’s purse to boost her earnings to $47,260.
Apollitical Scout is out the Corona Cartel mare Swingin Cartel, a half-sister to Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Swingin Val ($480,175) and the dam of Rainbow Derby(G1) winner Swingin Daddyo ($719,108) and Retama Park Futurity(G1) winner Swingin Jess.
Bred in Oklahoma by Dan and Louise Jones’ Apollitical Scout sold twice in at Heritage Place in 2015. Kasey Willis purchased the filly for $12,500 as a short yearling at the 2015 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale for WW Partners. The Cloud’s paid $18,000 for Apollitical Scout at the 2015 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale.
Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez was aboard Princess Of Torts for owner/breeders Terry and Irene Stenett. Saddled by G. Blane Wood, the daughter of leading sire Corona Cartel has finished second in both her career starts at Ruidoso this season. Out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Queen Of Torts, the brown filly earned $18,000 for effort.
Multiple stakes-placed Magical Jess (Heritage Place Graduate) races for owner Ugo De La Torre and trainer Mario Loza. Rodolfo Arvizu rode the gelded son of second crop sire One Sweet Jess from the Red Hot Rhythm mare Magic And Rhythm. Also second in the Desert Classic Futurity this year, Magical Jess used the $10,000 third place check to boost his career total to $26,850. EG High Desert Farms bred Magical Jess in California.
Jm Billy The Kid, One True Hero, Shenanigans Regard, Famous Runaway, Jess Prize Me, Revenger and Eyeonthecartel completed the field.
