OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—NOVEMBER 5, 2016—A strong closing session on Saturday helped boost the 38th annual Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale within a few dollars of last year’s average, excluding the historical $1 million Vessels Stallion Farm dispersal a year ago.
“The overall average is within $9 per head of what it was last year excluding the Vessels horses,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said late Saturday. “We sold 88% of the horses offered, almost as close of a duplication of last year as you could get.”
Total sale receipts for the 2016 Fall Mixed saw 437 head selling for a $3,946,250 gross compared to 433 head in 2015 for $4,860,000. The overall sale average was $9,030 compared to $11,226 in 2015. The median was $5,550 down from $6,200. These 2015 numbers include the Vessels dispersal.
McColee Land & Livestock purchased the high-seller, Our Genuine Delight, in Saturday’s closing session for $67,000. The daughter of leading sire Dash Ta Fame, from the former Broodmare of the Year Fortune Of Delight, was consigned by Roger Daly, Agent for Eaves Horses, FLP.
Two-time AQHA Racing Champion Feature Mr Bojangles was the second high seller for $48,000. Jumonville Farms purchased the son of leading sire Feature Mr Jess. Lazy E Ranch, LLC Agent was the consignor in Friday’s session.
Burns Ranch paid $45,000 for Rainbow Juvenile winner Indeed A Delight on Saturday. Also consigned by Roger Daly, Agent for Eaves Horses, FLP, the Wave Carver mare from Fortune Of Delight was bred to first crop sire Mighty B Valiant.
Johnny Cornwell purchased the sale’s high-selling yearling, One Tempting Eagle, from a supplemental session offered on Friday following the regular yearling session. Marty Powers, Agent consigned the One Famous Eagle colt out of A Tempting Chick by Chicks Beduino. The half-brother to champion and champion sire Tempting Dash brought $45,000.
The aforementioned McColee Land & Livestock were leading buyers with three head grossing $123,000. Tom Scheckel paid $112,000 for five purchases and Ramon R. Vega bought nine head for $106,300.
Marty Powers, Agent was the leading consignor and/or agent with 36 head grossing $462,300. Lazy E Ranch, LLC Agent sold 39 head for $437,800 and Roger Daly, Agent for Eaves Horses, FLP sold six head for $211,700.
Current leading 2016 sire of money earners One Famous Eagle was the sale’s leading yearling sire, by average with two or more sold, with two head averaging $37,500. All-time leading sire First Down Dash had two yearlings for $31,500 and leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon had two yearling average $28,250.
Champion sire Valiant Hero was the sale’s leading covering sire, by average with two or more sold, with two in-foal mares averaging $29,500. First crop sire Mighty B Valiant had two in-foal mares average $28,500 and first crop sire Hes Relentless had two for $22,000.
