OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–SEPETMBER 21, 2023–Leading sire Apollitical Jess sired the top three sale toppers in the opening session of the 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale on Thursday in Oklahoma City.
“We had an outstanding sale to kick off with Day 1. The average on horses sold was $35.488 and 91% of the horses sold,” Spence Kidney, Heritage Place General Manager said Thursday night. “We have a great catalog for tomorrow and look forward to another great session on Friday.”
Dunn Ranch paid $320,000 for Thursday’s sale-topper Hip 104 Outtasyght. Bobby D. Cox consigned the Apollitical Jess colt from the stakes placed multiple G1 producing Mr Eye Opener mare Eye Popping. Outtasyght is a half-brother to All American Derby(G1) winner Instygator, Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Shott Gun and stakes winner Maybellina.
Marty Powers Agent for Flagg Ranch LLC sold the second high-seller, Hip 253 Jess Sonny D to MRB Racing LLC for $280,00. The Apollitical Jess colt, out of Sonny D by Tempting Dash, is a half-brother to two black type. This is the family of leading sires Pyc Paint Your Wagon and Ivory James
Thursday’s third high-seller, Hip 147 AJ Golden Cash was purchased by Mario Perea Cardona for $205,000 from the consignment of Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. The Apollitical Jess colt, from the stakes winning Takin On The Cash mare Shyann Cash, is a brother to Firecracker Futurity(G2) winner AJ Run For Cash and half-brother to Grade 2 winner Shy Ann Jess.
Equestix, Inc. was the opening session leading buyer with 11 purchases totaling $329,000. Dunn Ranch had the one for $320,000 and Reliance Ranches, LLC purchased four yearlings for $283,500.
Leading consignor and/or agent for the opening sessions was Bobby D. Cox with 10 head for gross receipts of $939,000. Rancho El Cabresto, Inc. sold six for $545,000 and Marty Powers Agent for Flag Ranch, LLC had four yearlings for $411,000.
Apollitical Jess was the opening session leading sire of yearlings (by average, 2 or more sold) with nine averaging $129,889. A Revenant sold two for a $85,000 average and Favorite Cartel had 12 yearlings average $70,583.

Session 2 on Friday (Sept 22), featuring Hip 283 thru 564, will get underway promptly at 10 a.m. (CDT).
The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association (OQHRA) will host a reception Friday evening in the Restaurant and Club immediately following the sale.
Saturday’s (Sept 23) final session, featuring Hip 565 thru 845, will get underway promptly at 10 a.m.(CDT).
Prior to the opening session a breeding to champions Kiss My Hocks and Flying Cowboy 123 will be sold with proceeds to benefit the Ruidoso Racing Foundation.
Heritage Place will offer online bidding, as well as the horsemen and women who can’t attend can view the sale live through an online webcast. Prospective online bidders must register by 5:00 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday, September 19.
