RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 24, 2016—Rancho el Cabresto, Inc.’s Apollititaka (*Heritage Place Graduate) drifted out under jockey Eduardo Nicasio while defeating Seaside Eagle by half-a-length in the $100,000 Rainbow Quarter Horse Juvenile Stakes at Ruidoso Downs Sunday afternoon. Take The Cup finished three-quarter back in the show position.
Saddled by trainer Juan Aleman, Apollititaka raced over the 400-yard course :19.899 seconds aided by a 15 mph tailwind. The $42,000 winner’s purse boosted her earnings mark to $46,850 with a (5) 2-0-1 record.
The homebred daughter of leading third crop sire Apollitical Jess is out of the multiple stakes producing Fishers Dash mare Taka Puna. She was bred in California.
Martin Ybarra, Jr.’s Seaside Eagle picked up $18,000 for second. Grant Farms, LLC bred the One Famous Eagle colt in Louisiana from the First Down Dash mare Seaside, a sister to world champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway. The $91,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate is trained by Juan Torres and ridden by Cesar Gomez. The Rainbow Juvenile was only the third start for the gray colt.
Third place finisher Take The Cup suffered his first loss in five starts for owner LMG Racing, Inc. Chris Zamora saddled the Corona Cartel colt who won the West Texas Juvenile last April as well as trials for Rainbow and Ruidoso Futurities. Walt and Pat Fletcher bred the $70,000 Ruidoso Select Sale graduate in Oklahoma from the multiple graded winner None As Easy, by Dashin Is Easy. He earned $10,000 for the effort to bring his seasonal total to more than $50,000.
Completing the Rainbow Juvenile field were Murcielago, Heismen, One Sweet Racy, Rebelious, Im Tellin Ya, Dashing Runner and Perrys A Hero.
