GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 6, 2018—Eos A Political Win (2016 Heritage Place Yearling Sale) scored his second career stakes win on Saturday by defeating Stone Cold Leader in the $163,400 Dash For Cash Derby at Lone Star Park. Cartel Cupid was moved to third after Lions Express’ was moved to seventh for interference.
Bumped at the start, Eos A Political Win put in a game effort under jockey Jose Alvarez to complete the 440 yards on a muddy (sealed) racetrack in :21.397 seconds, a 101 speed index.
Trainer Rolando Almanza saddled the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess to his eighth career victory for owner Elite Oilfield Services. The bay colt picked up $65,360 to the Dash For Cash Derby win, increasing his bankroll to nearly $310,000.
Bred in Oklahoma by Rey and Celia Nieto, from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pithia, Eos A Political Win entered the September 21st Dash For Cash trials off a win in the Retama Park Derby last July. He was also third in the Heritage Place Derby(G3), 4th in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby and second in last year’s Grade 3 Speedhorse Futurity.
Trainer Joe M. Davis saddled runner-up Stone Cold Leader for owner Patrick Richardson. Rolando Pina rode the Indiana bred son of Brookstone Bay from the Leader Of The Class mare Sheza Classy Leader. The multiple stakes winner picked up $27,778 for second to run his career mark to $342,0278.
Bred by Mark Michel, Stone Gold Leader won the Firecracker Derby at Delta Downs three races back. Last season he won the QHRA of Indiana SSA Futurity and Gordon Mobley Futurity.
Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez was aboard third-place finisher Cartel Cupid for owner/breeders Randy and Sandy Coleman and trainer G. Blane Wood. Second in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby earlier this year, Cartel Cupid boosted his career mark to $203,699 after banking $16,340 tonight.
The Texas-bred son of leading living sire Corona Cartel is out of Lake View Dreams by Granite Lake.
Completing the official order of finish were T Velocity, Sr Shambles, Krash Course, Lions Express, Ivory Noche, Jcm Dashn Fast and Ebrima.
