SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 30, 2016—Fastest qualifier Eyema Blue Wagon (Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate)broke on top and kept to the task Saturday after to defeat Jess Prize Me by a neck in the $217,904 West Texas Futurity(G2) at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Groupie James (Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale Graduate) finished half-a-length back in the show position. Ridden by jockey Sergio Becerra, Jr., Eyema Blue Wagon completed the 300-yards in :15.180 seconds to pocket the winner’s purse of $102,414. Saddled by trainer Albert Franco, the son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon kept his record perfect at 2-for-2.
Eyema Blue Wagon races for owner Regal Racing Stables, LLC. Dee and Betty Raper bred the brown colt in Oklahoma from the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyema Blues Girl, a half-sister to world champion Blues Girls Too.
Still win less in three starts, Jess Prize Me races for owner LMG Racing, Inc. and trainer LMG Racing, Inc. The son of Mr Jess Perry, who has finished second in three starts at Sunland Park this season, has earned $45,114. Jesse Levario was aboard.
Groupie James races for owner Carlos Trujillo, Jr. and trainer Jose Ramirez, Sr. Esgar Ramirez had the riding call aboard the Ivory James gelding out of Groupie, by A Regal Choice. Bred in Arizona by H&E Ranch, Inc., Groupie James earned $23,969 for his West Texas effort.
Completing the field were Valorus, Imperial Eagle, Gamey Tee Cos, Willie Be Fired, Lord Fa, Mojo Perry and Stella Lou.
