OKLAHOMA CITY, OK-JANUARY 20, 2018–Heritage Place’s Winter Mixed breeding stock sale concluded today (Jan 20), and the three-day auction recorded increases in key market sectors.
“Today’s closing session finished strong,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said late Saturday. “The third day average increased 22% over the same day last year and repurchases were minimal with 89% of the horses offered marked sold.”
Overall gross for the three-days increased by 5% from $7,355,400 in 2017 to $7,723,000 this year. The average price of $10,652 was up 3% from $10,345 while median remained even at $6,500.
“We hope everyone has a successful 2018 and look forward to watching the sale graduates perform throughout the year,” Kidney concluded.
The sale’s leading buyer through two days Donald Cavenaugh paid $300,000 on Friday for the unraced Tres Seis mare Tres Seis Folszookie, a half-sister to 2018 AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old and 3-Year-Old Gelding Hold Air Hostage. Consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent, the mare sold with a 2018 filly by AQHA Racing Champion Jess Good Candy.
Also selling Friday was the sale’s second high-seller, Hip 326 Roman Solider Cd. Josefa paid $107,000 for the Grade 2 stakes winning son of Apollitical Jess from the Dash Ta Fame mare Famous Phoebe. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent was the consignor.
A First Down Dash filly, out of the stakes winning Carters Cartel mare Whip Curl, was the high-selling “short yearling” at $52,000. Donald Cavenaugh purchased the brown filly from the family of AQHA Racing World Champion Wave Carver and three-time champion Ocean Runaway from Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Lazy Creek Ranch.
Cavenaugh was the sale’s leading buyer by gross with 14 head for $715,000. Alejandro Castaneda purchased 27 head for $216,900 And Darling Farms paid $167,500 for eight head.
Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent was the leading consignor or agent with 70 head grossing $1,501,700. Bobby D. Cox had 45 horses gross $422,900 and Marty Powers, Agent sold 43 head for $362,800.
First-crop sale sire, Champion Kiss My Hocks was the leading sire of “short yearlings” (by average with two or more sold) with three head averaging $26,333. Pyc Paint Your Wagon had three for $20,833 and Separatist had two yearling’s average $15,500.
First-crop covering sire, champion Jess Good Candy led all covering sires (by average with two or more sold) with five in-foal mares averaging $94,200. Valiant Hero had three for $30,333 and Kiss My Hocks had four in-foal mares average $28,875.
