ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 22, 2018—With a strong rally under jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., Regard The Rose (*2016 Heritage Place Sale Quarter Horse Yearling Graduate) caught Hollywoodcrown by a neck in the $134,387 New Mexico State Fair Derby(RG3) Sunday afternoon at Albuquerque Downs. Flash Moonfire finished a nose back in a blanket finish to take third.
“The way she broke, I was confident that she’d run a good race, and she did,” said Triana Jr. “She drifted out a little bit, but other than that she was pretty much clear and ran a good race.”
Saddled by trainer Alfredo Triana, Mason King’s Regard The Rose completed the 400 yards in :19.734 seconds to pocket the winners’ purse worth $67,194.
The daughter of multiple stakes sire Chicks Regard was bred by the Coronas Black Diamond Partnership from the Coronas Blackdiamond mare Not Sable Shes Rose.
Regard The Rose has compiled a (12) 7-1-0 record and earned $135,461. Last season the brown filly won the Arapahoe Park Futurity in Colorado.
Runner-up Hollywoodcrown races for owner-breeder and trainer Fred Danley. Porfirio Cano rode the daughter of champion sire Heza Motor Scooter from the Thoroughbred mare Hollywood Gone by Gone Hollywood. The multiple graded-placed filly earned $26,877 to increase her earnings mark to $123,725.
James Padgett, II saddled Flash Moonfire to his third-place effort for owner David Valdez. Alonso Rivera rode the First Moonflash gelding out of Required Fire by Walk Thru Fire. Runner-up in the Mountain Top Futurity(RG3) last season, Flash Moonfire was bred by Mike Abraham. The brown gelding earned $16,126 for today’s effort.
