OKLAHOMA CITY – May 11, 2015 Remington Park Futurity winner Regard With Respect has an opportunity for a historic double, as he posted the top time on the first night of trials for the $1.17 million Heritage Place Futurity (G1)at Remington Park on Monday.
Undefeated through three career attempts, Regard With Respect easily won his 350-yard trial by 2¼ lengths under jockey Larry Payne. The speedy gray crossed the finish in :17.323 seconds over a fast track. Owned by Nancy Powell of Kinta, Okla., and trained by Guillermo Valdivia, Regard With Respect would become the first runner in history to win both the Remington Park Futurity and Heritage Place Futurity, if he is successful in the May 30 final.
A gelded son of Chicks Regard, from the Special Definition mare Dynamite Friends, Regard With Respect was bred in Oklahoma by Nancy and Darrell Powell. With a perfect 3-for-3 record the leading earnings 2-year-old Quarter Horse in American has earned $348,422.
Regard With Respect (winner), BV Midnite Express (sixth) and Tres Of Paint (ninth) were all finalists in the $827,000 Remington Park Futurity(RG2) on April 18.
Ridden by jockey Russel Hadley, Bv Midnite Express posted the second fastest time of :17.466 seconds, after getting his second career win in three starts with a 1½ length effort in the sixth trial. Eddie Lee Willis conditions the homebred son of first crop sire Freighttrain B for Bella Vista Farms. His only off-the-board performance this year was in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity. The sorrel gelding out of Ms Tres Seis, by Tres Seis, has earned nearly $59,000 this year.
A Tres Of Paint won seventh trial by 1¾ lengths to post the third fastest time of :17.525 seconds. Charles Shults saddled the Tres Seis filly for owner Sara Leann Morgan. Bred by The Mixer Ranch from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare First Painted Sign, the bay filly has earned $34,776 this season. Jesus Salazar was up.
Southern Lulu, a lightly raced daughter of leading second crop sire and world champion Apollitical Jess was an impressive 2¼ length winner in the eighth trial to get the fourth qualifying time of :17.555. El Cabresto Racing Stables LLC owns the Sam Green Oklahoma-bred out of Southern Price, by Corona Cartel. Valentin Arellanes saddled the bay filly to her first win in two starts this season. Paul Nieto had the riding assignment.
Also getting her first career win, Shaken Pappasito took the final qualifying spot with a :17.579 clocking after posting a 1¼ length win in first trial. Eddie D. Willis trains the homebred daughter of multiple stakes sire Pappasito for owner/breeder James Sills and Abel Flores. Jose Vega was in the saddle.
Another 12 trials for the Heritage Place Futurity will be held Tuesday, May 12 at 5pm (central). Both nights of trials were moved from May 8 & 9, due to severe weather situations in Oklahoma.
