OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 15, 2021—With a promise of a new year buyers came out in full force Friday (Jan 15) for the opening session of the 43rd annual Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale in Oklahoma City.
“We had a record crowd on hand for the opening session and the market proved to be strong,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said late Friday. The first session averaged $17,484 on horses sold, an increase of 45% compared to $12,005 in 2020 and 93% of the horses offered today were marked sold. It was an exciting day at Heritage Place and we certainly look forward to strong finish in Saturday’s second session.”
Michael Herd paid $350,000 for the opening day high-seller, Hip 140 Curls Happy Wagon. The Grade 1 winning daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon was named AQHA Racing Champion Aged Mare of 2020 during ceremonies conducted Thursday evening in Oklahoma City.
Charette-Hill Racing, Inc., Agent for Martin Stacy and Michael Pohl consigned the Grade 1 winner of over $360,000. She is out of the Grade 3 winning Spit Curl Jess mare Eye A Spit Curl Girl. Curls Happy Wagon was third in the January 3rd Charger Bar Handicap at Los Alamitos in her last start.
Christina Flores paid $165,000 for the second high-seller on Friday, Hip 130 Contender, a just turned 3-Year-Old colt by leading third-crop sire Hes Relentless. Bob Moore Farms, LLC, Agent consigned the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity finalist out of Painted Sable by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
Martha Wells, named AQHA Racing’s 2020 Champion Owner on Thursday, signed the ticket for Friday’s third high-seller, Hip 312 Staggering Stride, for $152,000. Dreams Come True Ranch consigned the stakes winning Mr Jess Perry mare out of Dinastia Toll Brz. She is a half-sister to champion and world champion sire FDD Dynasty.
AQHA Champion Breeder Bobby D. Cox was the first session leading consignor with 31 head selling for gross receipts of $413,600. Marty Powers Agent had 24 head bring $398,200 and Charette-Hill Racing, Inc., Agent for Martin Stacy & Michael Pohl had the one mare for $350,000.
Two-time AQHA Racing Champion and first-crop sale sire Kvn Corona was the leading sire of short-yearlings on Friday (by average with two or more sold) with three head averaging $38,333. Champion Hez Our Secret sold three yearlings for a $19,333 average and multiple stakes sire Jess Lips had two average $16,250.
Pyc Paint Your Wagon was the Day 1 leading covering sire (by average with two or more sold) with two in-foal mares averaging $37,250. Champion and first sale-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 had two in-foal mares average $32,350 and 2020’s leading third-crop sire Coronado Cartel sold two in-foal mares for a $20,000 average.
