SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 19, 2016—Vicki Tebow and Matt Ratliff’s Tempting Valor (*Heritage Place Sale Graduate) defeated Ricky Separate by one-length to get his first career stakes win in Sunday’s $24,000 Skip Zimmerman Stakes at Canterbury Park.
Tempting Valor surged clear under jockey Jorge Torres to complete the 350 yards in :17.870 seconds, a 95 sped index into a 30 mph headwind. It was the fourth career win for the 4-year-old son of champion/champion sire Tempting Dash.
Stacy Charette-Hill conditions the gelding out of the Strawfly Special mare Thanks Jens. Bred in Oklahoma by Luis Aguirre, Tempting Valor has compiled a (15) 4-3-2 career.
“He just doesn’t make any mistakes,” trainer Stacy Charette-Hill said.
A finalist in the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity at 2, the brown gelding was second in the Boyd Morris Memorial Handicap in his last start and third in last year’s John Deere Stakes at Lone Star Park. He has earned $105,278.
Ricky Separate stepped up from an optional claiming win at Canterbury on May 30th to pick up $4,800 for second. Allen Hybsha conditions the 5-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Inseperable for himself and Camy Hybsha. Nik Goodwin had the riding call aboard the Oklahoma-homebred from the Royal Quick Dash mare Quick Meggie. He has earned nearly $70,000.
Heavy post-time favorite Sudden Separation dueled early but weakened under jockey Stormy Smith to finish third. Also by Inseperable, the sorrel mare races for owner/breeder Duane Murphy and is trained by Casey Black. The multiple graded stakes winner, out of Okie Dokey Annie by Okey Dokey Dale, has earned $182,187.
Lika Nightmare, Hastabealeader, Fantsy Pants, Fiftyshadezofgrey, Watch My Wallet and Racy Casanova completed the field.
