OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—SEPTEMBER 21, 2017—Heritage Place’s 39th annual September Yearling Sale that kicked off today in Oklahoma City saw a significant rise across the board compared to the sale’s 2016 opening session.
“We had a really good first day,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said Thursday evening. “The average is up 29% over last year total sale, repurchases were nearly the same, we have a great two days left.”
With 16 less horses selling on the opening day this year the first day gross jumped 17% to $3,602,300 compared to $2,979,100 in 2016.
Buyers purchased 217 of 247 head offered (21 horses were withdrawn) for a $16,600 average, a 23% increase over 2016’s first day average of $12,786. The median rose 14% to $10,500 compared to $9,000 last year.
A pair of six-figure colts tied for the high-seller on Thursday at $100,000 apiece.
Dillon Lane paid $100,000 for Hip 83, Separate Jets, a colt by champion sire Separatist from the Tres Seis mare Senorita Tres. James Ranch, Agent for Walter R. Harrison consigned the half-brother to Oklahoma Derby winner Politicaly Correct and Harris County Stakes winner Brookestone Grey.
Keith Nellesen signed the $100,000 ticket for Hip 114, Corona By Corona, a son of leading living sire Corona Cartel. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC consigned the colt out of Grade 2 winner Louisiana Corona by Jess Louisiana Blue. The second dam is 4-time champion filly and All American Futurity(G1) winner Corona Cash.
The third high-seller from session 1 was Hip 249, Myohmyimagoodlooker, a daughter of all-time leading sire First Down Dash from the stakes winning and multiple stakes producing Takin On The Cash mare Dreams For Lyndsie. Dreams Come True Ranch consigned the half-sister to stakes winners Lookingforagoodtime, Flyingforunclesam. The first dam is a half-sister to five-time champion Catchmeinyourdreams.
The aforementioned Dillon Lane was the opening session leading buyer with two purchases for $150,000, Whitmire Ranch paid $117,000 for three yearlings and Bobby D. Cox bought two head for $115,000.
Marty Powers was the session 1 leading consignor or agent with 14 head grossing $285,200. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent had 16 head gross $227,900 and Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC sold four head for $179,000.
Corona Cartel and First Down Dash tied for the leading sale sire on day 1 (by average with two or more sold) with three yearlings each averaging $66,667. FDD Dynasty had five yearlings average $50,600.
