OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—SEPTEMBER 19, 2019—The newly revised two-day Heritage Place September Yearling Sale got off to a strong start on Thursday, posting increases across the board in gross, average and median.
Heritage Place reported that from 306 head offered in session one, 269 yearlings sold for $5,502,700, an average price of $20,456 and a $15,000 median. While direct year-to-year comparisons are difficult because session one format consisted of more horses this year, by any measure today’s opening session was a major success.
During Day 1 a year ago 219 horses sold averaged $17,829 on total receipts of $3,602,300, with a $12,000 median. The completed sales rate today was comparable to last year’s opening session at 88%.
“Thanks to a large dedicated crowd and tremendous sales staff, we concluded the with a 16% increase in the average on horses sold compared to 2018,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said late Thursday. “There is still a strong catalog for tomorrow and we look forward to a great sale then as well.”
La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC, who has been a strong yearling buyer over the years, showed up again Thursday taking home the session topper—Hip 274 Lethal Glory, for $100,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for P.K. Thomas consigned the Volcom filly out of multiple grade 1 producer Lethal Delight by Dean Miracle.
The bay filly is a sister to All American Futurity(G1) winner Jm Miracle and Ruidoso Juvenile winner Lethal Express.
Also active Thursday was Running Down A Dream Partnership who purchased the second high-seller—Hip 159 B Boujee, a daughter of champion sire Tres Seis from Marty Powers, Agent for Homer A. Hill for $80,000. Out of the multiple stakes winning Valiant Hero mare Glory Rider, the bay filly is a half-sister to stakes-placed Jess B Glory. This is the family of Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity winner and multiple stakes sire Mighty B Valiant.
Edmer Paredes paid $75,000 for the third high-seller—Hip 198 Fast Prize Politics. James Ranch, Agent consigned the filly by leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Corona Cartel mare Fast Prize Corona. The bay yearling is a half-sister to five black type including Grade 1 winner Cr Tuckernuck.
Rachuan Suarez MVZ was the opening session leading buyer with 17 purchases grossing $274,200. Alejandro Castaneda paid $182,300 for 13 head and Sylvia Shawn Pitman purchased two yearlings for $112,000.
Bobby D. Cox led all consignors and agents on day 1 with 18 head grossing $550,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent had 11 head for $283,500 and Burns Ranch, Inc., Agent sold 10 head for $271,000, Lazy E Ranch, Agent for two specific clients had another two consignments in the top 10 on day 1.
Apollitical Jess was the leading sale sire on day 1 (by average, with two or more sold,) with nine yearlings averaging $47,556. Volcom had four for a $46,600 average and Corona Cartel had three at $42,833. First-crop sale sire Jess Good Candy had nine yearlings average $19,667.
