OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—SEPTEMBER 24, 2021—Half-brothers, out of the champion producing First Down Dash mare Little Surfer, brought over $200,000 each in front of a record crowd during Friday’s opening session of the 2021 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.
Day 1 saw across the board increases compared to last year’s opening session as consignors and buyers continue to witness a 2021 Quarter Horse racing market that has shown strength from sale to sale during this summer sale season.
“The first day finished with a 95% clearance rate,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said late Friday night. “The average is a 39% increase over the same day last year. With record attendance we certainly look forward to another great day tomorrow.”
There were a total of 10 six-figure yearlings in the opening session with two surpassing the $200,000 mark.
Double Bar S Ranch, Robyn Gordon and Thompson Racing paid $240,000 for Friday’s high-seller Hip 353 Time Flys, a colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess from the aforementioned Little Surfer, the dam of three black type including AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old and Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Uncle D. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock, LLC was the consignor.
The second high-seller on Friday was Uncle D’s full-brother Hip 197 Party Hounds. Sue Floyd and Jeremy Trujillo paid $220,000 for the Corona Cartel-Little Surfer colt also consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock, LLC. This is also the family of champions Ocean Runaway and Wave Carver.
Johnny Trotter purchased Friday’s third high-seller, Hip 336 Succession, a colt by leading sire Favorite Cartel from the AQHA Racing Champion mare Fredaville by Mr Jess Perry. Consigned by Gentry Farms, the bay colt is a half-brother to three black type including Grade 1 winner Kiss Thru Fire.
Rachuan Suarez MVZ was the opening session leading buyer with 12 purchases totaling $371,500. Sue Floyd and Jeremy Trujillo had two head for $260,000 and Double Bar S Ranch, Robyn Gordon and Thompson Racing had the high-seller for $240,000.
Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock, LLC was the leading consignor and/or agent on day 1 with 14 head grossing $949,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent sold 22 head for $713,500 and Bobby D. Cox had 13 head total $596,000.
Walk Thru Fire was the leading sale sire in session one (by average with two or more sold) with two yearlings averaging $106,500. Apollitical Jess had 17 yearlings average $79,676 and Corona Cartel had 11 head for a $78,091 average.
Champion Kvn Corona was the leading first-crop sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with 13 yearlings averaging $30,462.
