OKLAHOMA CITY – May 12, 2015 – – Oklahoma Futurity winner Tee Chic kept his career mark perfect by assaulting his 350-yard trial to post the best time on the second night of trials for the $1,170,000 Heritage Place Futurity. The gelding crossed the finish in :17.614 seconds over a fast track.
Owned and bred in Texas by Francisco Garza of Laredo, Texas and trained by Rick Robinson, Tee Chic was ridden by Francisco Calderon. The son of Jumpn Chic from the Burrs First Down mare First Down Tee won his trial by 1-3/4 lengths in very impressive fashion. He has now posted a top qualifying time for both of the futurities he has attempted.
If Tee Chic goes on to win the Heritage Place Futurity on May 30, he would become the first Oklahoma Futurity winner since that race has been conducted at Remington Park, to win the richest race in Oklahoma. He boasts a career mark of three wins from three attempts and total earnings now of $178,622 after picking up another $8,784 for the trial romp.
Corona Surfer, an $80,000 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate owned by Bobby Simmons broke his maiden with a one-length win in the fourth trial. Ridden by champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. for trainer C. Dwayne Gilbreath, the colt set the second fastest time of :17.785 seconds over the 350 yards.
The son of leading living sire of money earners Corona Cartel entered the trials off second place maiden effort at Remington Park April 12. McColee Land & Livestock bred Corona Surfer from the stakes winning First Down Dash mare Little Surfer, a sister to world champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway.
Tony Doughtie’s Texas homebred King Brett also got his first career win in two starts with a three-quarter-length victory in the opening trial. Trained by Luis Villafranco and ridden by Mario Delgado, the son of multiple stakes sire Hadtobenuts posted the third fastest clocking of :17.833 seconds.
The sorrel gelding entered the race off a fourth place effort in the Sam Houston Futurity(G2) trials on April 4. King Brett is out of the Six To Five mare Queen Of The Castle.
Volcoms Dash, a $25,000 Heritage Place September Yearling graduate, stepped up for his first win in the sixth trial after finishing second in his first start on March 21, but getting disqualified and placed ninth for interference.
Jockey Ricky Ramirez kept the Volcom gelding on straight course Tuesday night to finish a half-length on top in the fourth fastest time of :17.856 seconds. Manuel Almanza trains Volcoms Dash for owners Adan Arredondo and Mayra Sanchez. P.K. Thomas bred the bay colt from the stakes winning and stakes producing Takin On The Cash mare Lethal Cash.
Prized Wagon got his second win in as many starts this season with a one-length effort under jockey Joe Badilla, Jr. in the third trial. Donnie Lee Strickland conditions the Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt for owner Gene Cox.
Prized Wagon was bred in Texas, by Robert and Karen Nunnally. His dam is a G3 stakes producing Mr Jess Perry sister to Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner First Carolina and half-sister to Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Fast First Prize.
The Tuesday night qualifiers will join the five from the 12 trials held Monday, May 11 in the Heritage Place Futurity, including: Regard With Respect, :17.323 (trial 4); BV Midnite Express, :17.466 (trial 6); A Tres Of Paint, :17.525 (trial 7); Southern Lulu, :17.555 (trial 8) and Shaken Pappasito, :17.579 (trial 1).
The Tuesday night trials were conducted into a light headwind for the first half of the program while the Monday night trials had a light tailwind until the latter portion of that card. The wind came to a near standstill over the second half of trials each night. Both nights of trials were moved from May 8 & 9, due to severe weather situations in Oklahoma.
Remington Park will take Wednesday night off for live racing then return with the action of the 2015 American Quarter Horse Season Thursday thru Sunday, May 14-17. The first race on Thursday and Friday will be at 6pm. Saturday racing starts at 4pm, with the simulcast of the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico in Baltimore at 5:19pm. Sunday racing is underway at 1:30pm. All times are Central.
