Hotsempting Dominates First Day of Rainbow Futurity Trials at Ruidoso Downs
RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 5, 2019— Miguel Gallegos and Mauricio Gallegos’ Hotsempting dominated the fourth of 13 trials and established the fastest-qualifying time to the Grade 1, $1-million Rainbow Futurity during the first of two days of Rainbow Futurity trials on Friday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.
Hotsempting raced to an excellent start from the outside post position in her trial. The daughter of champion and champion sire Tempting Dash then easily accelerated and drew away to win by three-and-three-quarter lengths under jockey Esgar Ramirez. She was timed in :19.512 for the 400 yards.
Hotsempting was the odds-on favorite after proving to be a top futurity competitor. She made her debut in the trials to the Grade 1, $1-million Ruidoso Futurity on May 24 and posted the day’s fourth-fastest qualifying time. She came back in the Ruidoso Futurity to get a slightly tardy start from the outside post position and never engaged her rivals to finish seventh.
Hotsempting showed she can start from the outside post position in her Rainbow Futurity trial with her excellent start.
“I was expecting this,” trainer Jose Luis Muela said. “I was confident. She has been training really well and I want to thank the Lord.”
Bred in Texas by Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches, LP, from the Tres Seis mare Pandorum, Hotsempting is a half-sister to 2018 AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Hotstepper.
Df Mischievious Jess Partners’ Df Mischievious Jess (*Heritage Place Graduate) powered away from his rivals in the 11th trial to establish the second-fastest qualifying time of 19.755.
The Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo-ridden Df Mischievious Jess easily won by one-and-three-quarter lengths over Ruidoso Futurity qualifier Lil Miss Sashay.
Trained by James Padgett, II, Df Mischievious Jess was supplemented to the Rainbow Futurity trials at a cost of $30,000 after a promising career start at Remington Park.
The son of Apollitical Jess won his Heritage Place Futurity trial and then finished third in the $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile.
Df Mischievious Jess was bred in Oklahoma by Darling Farms. The bay colt is out of the Corona Cartel mare Mischievous Player, a half-sister to world champion sire FDD Dynasty.
Bobby D. Cox’s homebred Ratification was a half-length winner under jockey Agustin Silva in the 12th trial. The daughter of Apollitical Jess, from the grade 2 winning First Down Dash mare Shesa First Ratify, is trained by John Buchanan. The Texas-bred stopped the clock in :19.785 seconds to get the third fastest time.
Heritage Place Futurity(G1) finalist Jesses Dashair (*Heritage Place Graduate) posted an impressive 1 ¾ length win in the second trial to get the fourth fastest time of :19.796 seconds .Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez was aboard for leading trainer Trey Wood .
Owned by Celia Kinsey and Sandy K. Wood. Terry and Irene Stennett bred the Dashair filly in Oklahoma form the Mr Jess Perry mare Jesses Peach.
Christina Robinson’s Dash For Glitter was a neck winner over Hock You in the opening trial but held throughout the day to get the fifth fastest time of :19.824 seconds. Jockey Manuel Gutierrez rode the One Dashing Eagle gelding out of Denali Glitter (TB) by Officer (TB). Charles Robinson is the breeder and Emmanuel Galvez is the trainer.
Valiant Astica Leads Second Day Of Rainbow Futurity Trials at Ruidoso Downs
RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 6, 2019— J & SM Inc. and Jimmy Childs’ Valiant Astica won the second of 13 trials during the second day of qualifying trials to the Grade 1, $1-million Rainbow Futurity and her time of :19.692 for 400 yards held up through the afternoon as the top-qualifying mark at Ruidoso Downs on Saturday afternoon.
The horses with the five-fastest times from Saturday’s 13 Rainbow Futurity trials qualify to meet the five-fastest qualifiers from Friday’s 13 trials in the Rainbow Futurity on July 21.
Valiant Astica started sharply from the inside post position and gained a winning advantage under jockey Noe Garcia Jr. She then drifted out towards the middle of the track while clear of her rivals to dominate by two-and-one-quarter lengths.
The Fred Danley-trained filly won her maiden in her fourth start with the trial victory. She was second in her West Texas Futurity trial and then raced to a fifth-place finish in the $50,000 West Texas Juvenile. She made her Ruidoso Downs debut in the Ruidoso Futurity trials and was a troubled fourth in her trial.

Valiant Astica was produced by 2015 champion three-year-old filly Astica, a daughter of 2009 champion three-year-old filly and multiple stakes winning producer Alice K White. MJ Farms is the breeder.
Mark and Annette McCloy’s Rocket Seis (*Heritage Place Graduate) won the first trial in :19.713 for the second-fastest qualifying mark.
Rocket Seis also started from the inside post position. She broke out at the start and bumped with Wt Special, however Rocket Seis quickly found her stride under Ricky Ramirez. The filly drew away to win by one length in her second career start.
The Tres Seis-sired Rocket Seis was a troubled fourth in her Ruidoso Futurity trial. Flag Ranch LLC bred from the Holland Ease mare Going To The Hague.
Cavenaugh Quarter Horses, LLC’s Uncle D (*Heritage Place Graduate) was a highly anticipated runner during Saturday’s trials. He was second in the Grade 1, $1,073,100 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park as the 9-5 favorite in his previous start.
A powerful son of Corona Cartel, Uncle D raced to an excellent start under Cody Rodger Smith and held off his competition to win by a neck as the 2-5 favorite. His time of :19.796 was the fourth-fastest qualifying time.
Uncle D has now earned $177,365. Bred by McColee Land & Livestock LLC, he is from the First Down Dash mare Little Surfer.
Love Is Everything V, (*Heritage Place Graduate) a son of first-crop sire One Valiant Hero, won the 8th trial by one-length for owner James Sills and trainer Eddie D. Willis. Jimmy Brooks was aboard the Oklahoma-bred gelding out of Echoes Of Love by One Famous Eagle. His clocking of :19.781 was the third fastest on day 2.
Analytix, (*Heritage Place Graduate) for owner breeder Bobby D. Cox, scored his third in in as many starts in the third trial to get the fifth fastet time on day 2 of :19.828 seconds. It was the second qualifier for Cox and trainer John Buchanan. The son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry is out of the Corona Cartel mare All In The Jeans.
