OKLAHOMA CITY – June 5, 2016, Gyr Jammer (Heritage Place Sale Graduate) broke alertly in the Grade 2, $369,550 Heritage Place Derby to score the win for owner Rosa Aguado of Georgetown, Texas on Saturday night at Remington Park. She also won the 2015 Heritage Place Derby with Rpainted Wagon.
The gelded son of Apollitical Jess, out of the Sixes Royal mare Confession Session, prevailed in the 400-yard derby with a time of :19.483 seconds over a fast track.
Daniel Luna began training Gyr Jammer after he was purchased by Aguado at the 2016 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale for $32,000. He was ridden by jockey Raul R. Ramirez Jr.
He broke pretty sharp, Ramirez noted from the winner’s circle. He went to the lead pretty quick. The outside horses were coming to him but he kept on going.
On April 23rd of this year, Gyr Jammer finished third in the Sam Houston Derby at 18-1 odds. He romped in his trial for the Heritage Place Derby, winning by 1-3/4 lengths at 4-5 odds. Off in the final at 7-2, Gyr Jammer won the Heritage Place Derby by a head to pay $9.80 to win, $5.40 to place and $3.40 to show. Woop De Doo was always in contention and finished second to pay $13 to place and $5.80 to show. Datona Doll was the undefeated fastest qualifier and even-money favorite. A winner of all three of career races, she chased throughout to finish a close third and pay $2.60 to show.
Gyr Jammer won for the fourth time in nine career races, making $155,211 for the Heritage Place Derby. His overall bankroll now stands at $190,645. He was bred in Texas by James and Marilyn Helzer.
Remington Park live racing is now on hiatus until the beginning of the Thoroughbred Season on Aug. 12.
