StallionESearch – OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—NOVEMBER 1, 2014—Coming off last year’s incredible Fall Mixed Sale that included the final dispersal of horses VSE Corp. on behalf of the U.S. Treasure Department, the 2014 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale saw a 41% increase in their median number.
Saturday’s session closed the two-day sale with 439 head sold for a $4,198,200 gross and $9,563 average. The median price for horses rose from $4,050 in 2013 to $5,700 this year. Saturday’s sale average was up 15% compared to same day last year on horses sold and 91% of the horses offered were sold.
“The demand was very strong today to finish the weekend and we wish all of the buyers much success with their purchases made at the fall sale,” Spence Kidney, Heritage Place General Manager, said late Saturday.
MJ Farms purchased the high-seller, Grade 1 winner Eye For Corona for $132,000 from Julianna Hawn Holt. The multiple stakes producing daughter of leading living sire of money earners Corona Cartel won the 20007 Golden State Million Futurity [G1] at Los Alamitos Race Course. She sold in-foal to the industry’s #2 leading living sire of money earners Mr Jess Perry.
Salome Gallegos purchased the second high-seller, Grade 1 winner Jabuti Eagle SA for $95,000 from Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Splenda, LLC/Sonia Samaja. The 4-year-old son of leading sire One Famous Eagle won the 2013 Southern California Derby [G1] and has eared $92,141.
Mr Barbosa, the first yearling to enter the ring on Friday, topped the yearling session with a final bid of $55,000 from Tom Maher. Consigned by S&E Prepping, the colt by leading sire Tempting Dash is a half-brother to 2014 Oklahoma Futurity [G2] winner Paint Me Perry. His dam is a winning Mr Jess Perry out of three-time AQHA Racing Champion Kool Kue Baby.
Darling Farms/Darling Oil (Dan E. Darling) was the sale’s leading buyer with 10 purchases totaling $144,500. MJ Farms had the one purchase for $132,000 and Ramon R. Vega signed seven tickets for a total of $116,200.
6666 Ranch, Agent was the sale’s leading consignor and/or agent with 23 head grossing $326,100. Julianna Hawn Holt sold four head for $285,000 and Lea Stodart, Agent for The Estate of Carl C. Pevehouse represented 12 head totaling $245,500.
All-time leading first crop sire One Famous Eagle led all yearling sale sires (by average with two or more sold) with two head averaging $45,500. The #2 leading second crop sire Tempting Dash had two yearlings average $34,350 and champion sire Walk Thru Fire saw two yearlings average $28,250.
[G1]-placed Dominyun led first-crop sale sires of yearlings with three head averaging $13,067. Grade 1 winner Favorite Cartel had three for $8,700 and Heritage Place Futurity [G1] winner Givinitaroyaleffort had two yearlings average $3,750.
One Famous Eagle was also the sale’s leading covering sire (by average with two or more sold) with three in-foal mares averaging $48,333. Bigtime Favorite had three in-foal mares sell for $23,067 and first-crop sale sire Freighttrain B had two in-foal mares average $21,000.
